2018 Toy and Book Drive

HELPING CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY

Milwaukee and surrounding areas, WI (November 2018) – #DWYD (#Do What You Desire) and 14 local businesses (Merle Norman Cosmetics & MN Salon-Brookfield, Directions In Design-Fox Point, Chiropractic Company-Glendale, Stephanie Murphy DDS-Glendale, Chiropractic Company-Greenfield, KRS Hair & Wax Studio-Milwaukee & Brown Deer, Downtown Kitchen – US Bank Tower, Elegance Salon & Spa-New Berlin, Falbos Bros Pizzeria-Shorewood, Frenz Garden Center-Thiensville, The Leather Strop Barbershop-Waukesha, Fuel Café-Walker’s Point, Country Flower-Cudahy and Cranky Al’s-Wauwatosa) have banded together to support their local community with the 7th Annual #DWYD Toy and Book drive benefiting the Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center (MCAC) affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Each year our goal is to surpass the collection from last year. This year we will strive for enough toys to fulfill needs through the end of 2019.

Over 4,000 children come through the doors of the MCAC annually and they rely heavily on the charity and kindness of others. The donated items help provide security and reassurance to victims. Each child and teen that visits the center is offered a toy and a book to make a stressful day a bit more comfortable in an unfortunate situation.

#DoWhatYouDesire lifestyle brand headed by Joshua Scarver spreads a message of following your dreams and giving back. His purpose in doing this drive every year is to prove to himself and others, that anyone can take and idea and create an effort to help their community in a positive way. “I have realized in the 7 years since this has begun, is that it feels good to help and it feels even better to inspire others to take action”. Joshua’s true passion in life is giving and inspiring others to join in helping those who are less fortunate. The drive started as a small event collecting 40 toys and books. Now the drive has grown to over 4,000 donations in 2018 that help bring smiles to the faces of the forgotten children in our community. “It is my dream to keep growing the #DWYD Toy & Drive to even greater successes and bringing more of the community and its businesses, organizations and leaders together to bring positive change to our city of Milwaukee and beyond. Anything and everything is possible.” Collecting now through the end of December sends a message to the children of our community that someone cares about them.
